We’re excited to share some exciting news! The Jewish Autism Network has been selected as one of several grassroots culturally competent organizations in NYS to raise awareness about the Independent Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Ombuds (IDDO) program.
The IDDO, created in 2023 under Section § 33.28 of New York State’s Mental Hygiene Law, is an essential resource for individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, and caregivers. Managed by the Community Service Society of New York, this program provides conflict-free, independent advocacy to help navigate the often-overwhelming systems of support and services—all at no cost.
What IDDO Offers: IDDO provides support with:
· Navigating the OPWDD Front Door.
· Understanding Self-Direction.
· Addressing Life Plan concerns.
· Resolving housing challenges.
· Reporting abuse or neglect.
· Filing complaints and grievances.
And so much more!
Why IDDO Matters: Life can get complicated, but IDDO is here to make it easier. Their experienced team steps in when traditional systems don’t provide the help you need, ensuring that families and self-advocates have the tools and support to thrive.
How to Reach IDDO:
· Call the helpline: 1-800-762-9290
· Email: idd@cssny.org
At the Jewish Autism Network, we’re proud to partner with IDDO to empower families and self-advocates across New York State. Together, we’re building a more inclusive future.
